I was a Coca-Cola addict, now I complete 10 years without Soda

Stopping soda is very difficult at first, but after the first few months, I promise it will be easier

These days I realized that I hadn’t had Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta… or any other type of soda in over a decade. It all started with a promise: if I was admitted to the university that I wanted, in 2010, I would go a year without drinking soda. This seemed like a Herculean task because I was really addicted to these extremely sweet and fizzy colored drinks. A lunch with a glass of chilled soda was a happy lunch.

As tricky as that seemed to be admitted to the university I wanted, but after a year studying insanely, when my reality was to be in the company of the books from Monday to Monday, I got it. Later, I remembered the promise… it was the moment to give up my sugary pleasure.

I was 17 years old, and I remember the weight on my conscience when I failed three times after having decided to keep my promise. I still remember those decays today. On a cousin’s birthday, when I couldn’t say no to the Coke bottle looking at me, next to the party snacks; at a barbecue where life didn’t seem to make sense without…
